The Tengger Desert (腾格里沙漠) is the 4th largest desert in China. Basically a dune desert, with a small (or larger) oasis here and there.
What you can see on the picture is one such oasis. The lake was mostly dry when visiting there. So you can see different layers of colors in this picture:
